1988 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo
SUPERCHARGED
As Car and Driver put it, "we wish this car had more power and a manual transmission". That has finally changed. Meet the Supercharged, 5-speed 88 Oldsmobile Trofeo. Click on the links above for info on each area.
This car started life as your typical 88 Trofeo. 3800 V6 producing 160hp, 4T440 automatic overdrive transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, digital dash, climate control and power everything. It was actually a low-option car, no moonroof or Twilight Sentinel. Being a North Dakota car, the one option it did have was the engine block heater.
In it's original form, the car lacked the necessary power to make it truly fun to drive. Achieving it's top speed of 120 mph took a lot of effort, as did maintaining anything over about 110mph. Once the original transmission started to slip at 196,000 miles, it became time to change all this.
